about

Sound events captured around the Troja Chateau, Prague, Czech Republic during an artistic research and an event called Non-music of Non-locals organized by Marie Ctverackova, Ursula Sereghy and Sara Pinheiro.

"Non-music of Non-locals" event was composed of a listening and sound walk and a concert performed by sound artists Evil Medvěd, hidingseason and Ursula Sereghy who all used these recordings in their live sets. The event was part of an open call organized by the Prague City Gallery.

Feel free to use the sounds in your music, make collages to create imaginary soundscapes, or just listen through the sounds and allow yourself to think about our daily soundscapes and invisible sounding power structures of the environments. The environments and relationships that we build and care for and those we don't value and destroy.

“Listen to any sound as if it had never been heard before.”
Pauline Oliveros (Deep Listening: A Composer's Practice)

NON-MUSIC OF NON-LOCALS
A walk through the soundscape of public space and a concert

12th November 2023

What information and emotions can listening to the public space around Troja Castle bring us? Join us on another walk through the soundscape of this public space. Let's discover together the potential of the sound walk and conscious "deep listening" as a way of orienting ourselves in our environment, and as a tool for reshaping it and forming relationships and cultivating living together in it.

Join the artistic research of sound artists Marie Čtveráčková, Sara Pinheiro and Ursula Sereghy, who will offer an expansion of sonic horizons as well as the context of sounds and events in the landscape through a guided walk and concert.

During the walk we will learn more about the soundscape along the Vltava River from Troja Castle to Troja Bridge and discuss its sonic ecology and interspecies coexistence. We will also ask: What movements and relationships are not visible? What do we include under the label of the public, and who therefore has the opportunity to co-create the so-called public space? Whose voice and agency is heard? Who is local and who is non-local, what relationship do they have to the landscape, and how do they use the public space?

Together we will arrive at the Troja Bridge, where sound artists

Ursula Sereghy,
Evil Medvěd
hidingseason

will perform variations on the soundscape of the surrounding area.

URSULA SEREGHY
Ursula Sereghy is an electronic music producer and instrumentalist from Prague. She has played in many bands, including the successful Metastavy, in which she played the saxophone and the synthesizer. In 2018, she started to focus on electronic music. In September 202, her debut EP OK Box was released on the Gin&Platonic label, which was featured on The Quietus magazine's Best Albums of 2021 list, and recommended by Boomkat. An interview with Ursula was featured The Wire (October 2021). In 2022, she was part of SHAPE Platform+, a European platform supporting talented emerging musicians.
Ursula Sereghy works with a distinctive sound palette and organically intertwined fragmented rhythms. She also uses field recordings - the noises of cities and civilization listened to from afar. Her compositions form little nooks and crannies, certain types of soundtracks to events in everyday life, which can then perhaps be interpreted in different ways.

EVIL MEDVĚD
Evil Medvěd’s (SC/CZ) unpredictable live & DJ sets are frenetic, raw and driving. Whether playing live or at the decks, he shows us heart and it makes us question what the hell is going on in the best way possible. He was part of Shape Platform 2021.

HIDINGSEASON
hiding season aka Tamara Spalajkovic focuses on working with layering and processing field recordings, synths, sound design and vocals. Her sonic acrobatics teeter on the edge of dissonance, reflecting sound overwhelmed cities. Currently, she also uses sound as a research tool in exploring the urban landscape and its political context. She is a member of the collective favu label, which supports, organizes and maps the sound production of the students of the Brno FaVU.
